This book has been written to help programmers use the PL/I programming language more effectively. It is a practical guide both to the extensive facilities of PL/I and to the best ways of exploiting these facilities. Part I analyses the fundamental principles of PLA, Part Ii the more specialised features. At the end of both parts, examples of good practice are examined to draw together the elements and ideas discussed and to show how to use them to best advantage. Part III looks at techniques for building PL/I programs, with emphasis on structured and modular approaches, while Part IV places PL/I in context by comparing it with rival programming languages, examining standardisation and discussing implementations, including some for microcomputers.
